Palazzo delle Esposizioni

An imposing marble staircase interrupting the symmetrical regularity of Via Nazionale heralds the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, the largest multidisciplinary exhibition venue in the centre of Rome, with its more than 3,000 square metres on three levels, comprising exhibition space, a movie theatre, an auditorium, educational workshops, a bookstore, a restaurant and a cafeteria.
The Palazzo delle Esposizioni, one of Europe's most up-to-date cultural centres, is committed to an ongoing and rewarding exchange programme with leading Italian and international institutions. It offers the public a rich and culturally diversified schedule of events ranging from art exhibitions to film retrospectives, from theatre to photographic exhibitions, from music to book launches, and from educational activities to encounters exploring numerous themes in greater depth.  Immensely popular with Romans and garnering increasing praise from the city's regular and first-time tourists, this majestic white building, designed by Piacentini in the late 19th century, represents a cultural and atmospheric venue for the city of Rome offering visitors quality events and leading-edge standards of technology and hospitality.
Since reopening to the public in October 2007, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni has offered its visitors a rich and prestigious programme of temporary exhibitions, hosting in its majestic halls collections and artists that have proven capable of "dialoguing" in an extremely productive manner with the city and its past. This ongoing dialogue, this interplay of echoes and stimuli between eras and cultures, may be the thread that links and that best evinces the Palazzo's true nature. Visitors have been able on more than one occasion to travel through time, in exhibitions devoted to ancient civilisations or in innovative and futuristic scientific events; they have been able to enjoy to the full the unique vision of 19th and 20th century masters, or to experience the emotion of contemporary photography; they have been privileged to relive entire seasons of unforgettable films on the silver screen, or to listen in astonishment to music where normally no music would be expected.
The Palazzo delle Esposizioni's very raison d'être lies in its nature as a forum where the arts, ideas and people can meet, a public space - either a starting point or a safe harbour depending on the event - within which each visitor can discover or build his or her own idea of culture and of the world.
