Ruggero Savinio

March 24, 2012 - May 27, 2012
Contemporary arts of the XX and XXI century

Ruggero Savinio (Turin, 1934) has always been a figurative painter but is also a refined writer, faithful to his familial transmission of knowledge and abilities, from Alberto Savinio to Giorgio de Chirico. This is the reason why his paintings and his writings and poems are always intermingled. They are all means of expressing his intellectual world surfaced by slightly evoked presences that are the outcome of a path moving from the darkness of conscience to memory, keeping and showing an acculumation of the elements they came into contact with.

This exhibition, curated by Mariastella Margozzi and organized with the co-operation of the Fondazione Giorgio e Isa de Chirico, presents about a hundred works among paintings and drawings belonging to the artist's whole production witnessing his poetic "themes" (L'età dell'oro - The golden age, the Conversazioni - the Conversations, the Stanze - the Rooms) together with the evolution of his resarch investigating matters and techniques, ending up in his latest works with the usage of velvet as a support for colours in order to emphasize the psychological depth of his compositions.
