Contemporary arts of the XX and XXI century
The city of Rome, where Renato Guttuso used to live for fifty years, celebrates the Artist with a major exhibition in the occasion of the Centenary of his birth.
With 100 works by Guttuso the exhibition shows the whole creative path of the Sicilian painter artistic activity.
In order to understand the art of Guttuso seems crucial to investigate the relationship between his work and other artists devoted to different disciplines. He was inspired by several important intellectuals , so for example, the writer Moravia, sculptors as Moore and Manzù, poets as Pasolini and Neruda and the important Italian director Visconti. The prolific partnerships with this artists turn out creations as book's illustration and set designs sometimes developing into actual artistic movements.
Through his paintings Guttuso shows all deep, intense, social, political and religious aspects of this variegated world: and we finally discover a different and vibrant idea of Rome with Colosseo, Tetti di via Leonina and the mysterious presence of the roman gardens of the Visita della Sera .
